I enjoyed the poem on the "Vintage" page. With apologies to Bernard, here is my Mark II version.


UNPRETENTIOUS

In days when forest felt no threat,
With fibreglass unheard of yet,
They built of things that lived and grew,
Like spruce and birch and casein glue.

Folk who flew then knew their place,
Yes, they knew the urge to race,
But did not claim by word or deed,
To split the sky at breakneck speed,
But rather by pace more modest-like,
More befitting the average bike.

Drifting downwind, enjoying the view,
Seemed more the proper thing to do,
Without undue, unseemly haste.
Which would in truth be in poor taste.

?Wood has soul? will oft times pass
The lips of those without the brass
For super high-performance glass.

So we flew what could be afforded,
Thankful to do so, and so applauded,
As any decent fellow should,
The unpretentiousness of wood.

Love the web sight. Exactly what soaring needs-just a bit of attitiude. Might become the next Cirrus chav in the USA soon though. But then again next to the Ausies we're the biggest Chavs in the world. So I'd probibly end up a bit of a Chav even in a 201b. I won't thermal against the grain though. I despise those "pilots". Can't say I won't be pulling just 2G's to prove I can dolphin for a while. Once again great site! I'm going to pass it along to my fellow club members.
